23/12/2004 :: Crank update (again…)

Yesterday afternoon I was the happy recipient of a spanking new, custom pair of flush bolts for the new oversize crankset to be released sometime in ‘05. The bolts are black steel in construction and are a perfect fit for the recess in the crank arms. Although not a new idea by any means, a proper flush bolt does a very useful job (protects ankles from bolt sticky out-ness and also prevents axle boss crimpage).
I for one am sick of seeing cranks with ‘flush-a-like’ bolts that leave a gap between themselves and the axle boss on the arm, meaning the boss can still be crushed over the bolt if accidentally knocked (during grinds/crashes). I don’t mean to get all girly about it but if you’re gonna do it, do it f-kin properly!!
I can’t see anything going wrong with these samples but they’re on test anyway. I’m trying to work out how to show you all a picture of them but being a bit of a Net Divvy is holding me back somewhat.
More updates as I get news…

21/12/2004 :: Team news!

Having scoured the country for a suitable candidate, we have picked up 19 yr old Luke Elliot for the BMX team. He turned out to be on our doorstep, regularly ripping up Y2SK8 in Peterborough (P-Town). As well as being a darn good egg, he has placed well at two Backyard jams, 2nd in Expert in both Derby (Oct 03) and Bournmouth (Apr 04). On top of this he placed first in A Group at the recent Pariah Jam.
He’s loving the Gusset parts he’s getting and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship (Maybe we’ll have some kids together and buy a house…)

Also, look out for Josh Bates, 10 yr old shredder from Norfolk, on flow with us. He’s a dab hand at no-foot can’s and candy bars amongst various other ever expanding trick variations. (Wallride to crankflip being one of them!) Seriously, the boy’s a treat to watch.

09/12/2004 :: New Cranks. Again!

The cranks as mentioned months ago in ‘news’ are nearing completion at last. The hold up has been the design and construction of a fully functional ‘flush bolt’. The one that’s coming is NOT going to protrude out of the crank arm OR sink too far in. Also, it will fully fill the diameter of the crank bolt recess in the arm, to prevent crimping when hit. This is something I’ve suffered from in the past, I’ve lost skin trying to get arms off axles with knacked arm bosses and these flush bolts should prevent this. More updates as we get samples…

Also, look out for some exciting team news in the very near future…

06/08/2004 :: New Crankset?

Currently on test we’ve got a new crankset. This is something close to my heart as I seem to go through cranks like babies go through nappies (except babies don’t hurt their ankles on broken nappies).
The cranks feature an oversized axle (22mm) and squared arms. Current features include; One piece axle/torque boss section, prevents misaligned chainring fitting, hollowed out axle with 48 splines, flush spacer kit, flush fit crank bolts. The crankset will be available in black only at present in a satin finish.
We currently haven’t got plans for a euro version for the simple reason that oversize axles and euro bearings aren’t generally the best of friends over time. More news on the testing progress of these as it comes in. (I’m testing them and my shoulder’s hanging on by a thread at the mo’).

06/08/2004 :: Sticky Fingers...

Very recently (two nights ago) some scum sucking ‘tards decided to rob up two bikes from G-Dog and team boy Dexter’s palatial apartments. He is now armed with a vengeful glare and a desire to punish those responsible. If you happen to see his red 520 dirt frame loaded with Gusset parts out and about, give the relevant ‘new owner’ the reception they deserve. Having been a textbook ‘victim of crime’ I can empathise with this plight and it is a killer. New bike and new storage system underway…
PS The G-Dog is also quite pi$$ed at the theft of his bike and may well explode in a geyser of rage if he doesn’t sort a new steed within minutes. (Probably…) Wouldn’t like to be the guilty party if he ever catches up with them…

23/07/2004 :: Weymouth Jam

More jam news, Gusset Bikes will be supporting the Weymouth Jam on the 31st of July at Weymouth skatepark, Dorset. Kicking off at 9am with the jams starting at around 12:30 riders should have plenty of time to get into and out of mischief before they have to ride!! Also featuring live bands (Rock, punk, metal; none of yer pop cr@p, obviously…) and the obligatory BBQ. Check it out if you’re in the area or fancy a worthy roadtrip opportunity. Weather’s lookin’ good too…

16/07/2004 :: Brightlingsea Jam

Having recently spoken to Chris at The Bike Surgeon in Brightlingsea, we are proud to announce that we will be supporting the BMX and Skate Jam to be held on the 31st of July at Brightlingsea Skatepark. Also features a huge music festival on site so there should be something for everyone. Dunno on what basis prizes will be given out, but some lucky ladies and gents are soon to b the recipients of some flouro pink Pimp tyres amongst other bits n bobs we’ve flowed their way. Promises to be a good event so check it out!

13/07/2004 :: Job done...

So here it is at last!! For the last few months the demon that is T’internet has been the bane of my life (and the web developer that’s done all the real work!). But it is done and it works! The point is, now you don’t have to wonder about anything to do with our stuff, it’s all there waiting for you to have a look-see. (sadly, porn fans, this site will not increase your wrist power in any way. but you clean it as fast as you like…) Hope you like it, if not let us know. Not that we’ll change anything, well, we might…
